TRADE UNIONS AND THE YOUNG BAR ASSOCIATION DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY AFTER MASSACRE

UNNOH, CENEH, CUTRASEPH and the Young Bar Association of Port-au-Prince have strongly condemned the massacre that occurred during the night of August 23–24, 2026, in Kenscoff, which they attribute to the criminal coalition Viv Ansanm.
In a press statement, the signatory organizations report that more than forty people were killed, including children, agricultural workers and municipal employees. They also denounce the burning of dozens of homes and the mass displacement of families, arguing that the population was left defenseless in the face of armed groups.
AUTHORITIES ACCUSED OF SECURITY FAILURES
The organizations directly question the responsibility of the security authorities. They ask whether intelligence services, the Superior Council of the National Police (CSPN) and the senior command of the Haitian Armed Forces had received warnings about the impending attack.
They are calling for the resignation of key CSPN officials and for a judicial investigation to determine possible responsibilities within the state’s chain of command.
CALL FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION
The signatories are also demanding a coordinated response from the Haitian National Police and the Armed Forces to restore security in the affected areas, as well as emergency humanitarian assistance for victims’ families and thousands of displaced residents.
They are also calling for broader citizen mobilization against insecurity and impunity, while advocating for new political governance, an independent justice system and stronger security institutions.
